If you’re a fan of folk music, you’ve probably heard the stories about Bob Dylan steeling records from friends, taking them right from the house, and bringing them with him along his travels to listen to. These are the records that influenced his singing, his voice and his attack at the art of writing music. I imagine The Foghorns “Ain’t I a Man” sounded a lot like some of those records. There is humor, wisdom and something timeless to their track. Hell, there’s even harmonica!

Naomi Wachira is one of those people whose spirit shines through whatever medium she’s taking part in. Whether it’s a produced full band track, a photograph, music video or acoustic tune. And recently she released an acoustic EP, I Am Because You Are, the title track of which is self-reflective with a touch of echo to the vocals and a light, bouncy, and yet somehow still ominous guitar accompaniment. Naomi is a treasure – see for yourself here.

When you run an arts publication, you have the honor of strangers sending you their work unsolicited. Sometimes the work is strong, sometimes it isn’t. In the case of rapper Carradin Michel (aka Blues), the music was reminiscent of the hiphop I would listen to in high school and college, music with a New York slant – dare I say a Nas Illmatic flavor mixed with a touch of LL Cool J. There is a cityscape in his bars, kindness and curiosity to his vocals.
