A man leaning over a chair, another man squatting shirtless, a woman helping to pick up a friend by his arm. These moments, often lost in the day-to-day, are not forgotten by artist Anne Petty. She captures these awkward, human moments in rich paintings. We wanted to catch up with Anne, who was a contributor to our third print edition, Monarch #3, and ask her about her work.

What I discovered: there is no such thing as too much beauty, too much poetry, or too much limoncello! I ended my Wednesday night of APRIL’s festival (Authors, Publishers, and Readers of Independent Literature) eating chicken rice at Kedai Makan. But really, I wish I ate “pieces of toast dipped in toilet water†because that’s what one Mark Leidner poem deliciously suggests.Â

A Generous Fundraiser

Seattle bands Theoretics, Funky 2 Death, Half Kingdom, along with musicians Daniel Blue and Sam Miller will be performing at the High Dive Sunday, March 30th in order to raise money for a friend and his two high school-aged siblings who lost their parents and whose house had a tree fall on it.Â
An Interview With Wes Hurley

The Russian-born Wes Hurley has been making short films in Seattle since his time at the University of Washington. His latest creation, “Capitol Hill”, features the wonderful boylesque dancer, Waxie Moon, as well as a number of characters from the Drag Queen and burlesque scene here in the city. We had a chance to chat with Wes and get a sense of what the new projects aims to achieve in the ever-changing Emerald City culture.
