Hello and welcome back to our coverage of Bumbershoot. If you missed Day 1 click here, or Day 2 click here. Enjoy! (also check us out on Twitter here!) Cascadia ’10 I had no idea what to expect when I set off to check out Cascadia ’10 at the Tunein Stage. When I got done shooting and had a chance to listen, I was instantly impressed. It had a soul flavor, a very “Isaac Hayes†sense of funk, but with the Afrobeat feel upon which they hang they’re collective hats. These guys swing, and I instantly fell for them. The […]

Bumbershoot Day 2
Monday, September 2, 2013 8:40 — 0 Comments
Hello and welcome back to our coverage of Seattle’s Bumbershoot music and arts festival. If you missed Day 1, check it out here! And without further ado… Kithkin The four lost boys of Kithkin appear to have washed up randomly on the same island and began banging on things. Mistakenly announced as the “Canadian Youth Tribe,†the quartet of forest creatures announced the start of Day 2 with a motherfucking crash. A thunderous, name-making performance by these guys has been long overdue, and they picked a great moment to follow through, opening the second day of Bumbershoot with a sun-drenched […]
Bumbershoot Day 1
Sunday, September 1, 2013 12:21 — 0 Comments
Hello and welcome to our coverage of Seattle’s Bumbershoot music and arts festival! This is Day 1, featuring acts like Nacho Picasso, Heart and more! Flavr Blue I almost I missed Flavr Blue (curse you Bumbershoot press line!) but what I did see I definitely enjoyed. Traditionally a 3-piece (they were 4-piece today), Flavr Blue makes inspiring music. Complex harmonies over a laid back groove creating a very “sunshine†feel to their set. This is a digital band, so if electronic drums are a problem for you, I get it, but it’s done with such skill by this group […]

One Super-Important Question For Vox Mod
Friday, August 30, 2013 11:18 — 0 Comments
Vox Mod is a Seattle producer. He has worked with cats like Erik Blood and has put out more than a handful of albums in the last half-dozen years, including his most recent LP release, SYN-ÆSTHETIC. His music is often energetic and always full of thought. The movements and undercurrents of his production have roots that go deep, creating a tenuous balance of sounds that he somehow keeps going track after track. The Monarch had a chance to catch up with Vox Mod and ask him one super-important question.Â
Hanging with The Comettes – Andrew Harris
Thursday, August 29, 2013 10:15 — 0 Comments
The Comettes are like human marijuana. I’ve been sitting with the band, comprised of Tim Sunshine, Jettie Wilce, and Sager Small, for about 9 seconds and we’re already laughing and giving each other shit like old friends. There’s an energy amongst these three that is absolutely inspiring, resulting in a quick interview turning into myself and The Comettes sitting around Cafe Petirosso like high school buddies.
One Super-Important Question For Kithkin
Wednesday, August 28, 2013 16:52 — 0 Comments
Kithkin is playing Bumbershoot Sunday at 11:45AM. Known for their woodsy-themed performances and wild, energetic stage presence, Kithkin has been wowing audiences of late. Our Andrew Harris decided it was high time to ask them one super-important question…Â
What am I?
Bioluminescent eye
That sees by the shine
Of its own light. Lies
Blind me. I am the seventh human sense
And my stepchild,
Consequence;
Scientists can't find me.
Januswise I make us men;
Glamour
Was my image then—
Remind me:
The awful fall up off all fours
From the forest
To the hours…
Tick, Tock: Divine me.
